The Problem
Ear infections (acute otitis media/AOM) are a big problem, especially in children.
-
More than 80 percent of children have at least one ear infection by the time they are 3 years old.
-
In the U.S., ear infections account for about 30 million visits to the pediatrician each year — the most common reason children visit their doctor.
-
Worldwide, it’s estimated that over 700 million cases of earaches occur annually, with half of those experienced by children under five years of age.
-
There are an estimated 22 million children in the U.S. under the age of five and another 24 million children between the ages of six and eleven.
Currently to address AOM in their children, parents can do their best to get through the night and then make a trip to the pediatrician in the hopes of obtaining an antibiotic prescription, which generally takes 48 hours to begin taking effect… or they can treat with pain medications (acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication) while they wait for it to clear up naturally (usually within a weak). When a child experiences AOM frequently, their pediatricians often recommend they undergo surgery to get ear tubes (e.g. tympanostomy tubes) which is obviously not without its risks.
Our Solution.
No Doctors Visit
Thanks to ClearPop®, we finally have an effective option to provide clinically-proven relief for children with earraches! By using ClearPop®, parents can avoid unnecessary visits to the pediatrician’s office with a fast & convenient option that doesn’t just mask symptoms, it actually helps clear the ear.
No Antibiotics
Unlike pain killers and antibiotics, ClearPop® contains zero medicine. Taking antibiotics too often or for the wrong reasons can change bacteria & proliferate "super bugs" that minimize their effectiveness in the future. ClearPop® is a medicine-free & risk-free treatment for ear infections.

Frequent ear infections in his two young children inspired Dr. Scott Morehouse to invent a more natural solution
Early product development iterations to explore & determine the best shape for suction & safety, flavoring, etc.

Suzanne Shafer steps in as CEO, and the team signs a $1m white label agreement with Mommy’s Bliss to use some of their shelf space in 7000 Walgreens stores!
We have sold 3.9 million boxes of ClearPop!
Subsidiary of competitor J&J (pain medication & antibiotics) sends us
a cease & desist letter challenging our box claims of clearing up the earache within 30 minutes.
We pause production of the units slated for the Walgreens stores and meet with our legal team & the FDA... they validated our box claims were not an issue given the clinical trial data we had to back it up, but informed us there was a separate problem – we were registered as a type 1 medical device, but now that they are digging deeper into our product, it seems we should have been registered as a type 2 medical device... they assured us this is a seamless process given the nature of our product, but would require a premarket clearance process (FDA 510(k)) and a supporting 9 month trial.. & that in the meantime, we had to pull the product from the market until that was buttoned up & clearance was issued.
Founder Dr. Scott Morehouse hasn’t given up hope of getting this amazing product back in the market and brings aboard Janel Wellborn as CEO. We are now seeking our next round of funding so we can begin the FDA 510(k) premarket clearance process while working in parallel to reignite our production, distribution, and marketing partnerships so that we are ready to get ClearPop back in the market ~ 9 months after we kick off!
